A couple weeks ago, I took you through an introduction and summary of Simplify Magazine Issue 001Â which was all about happiness.
Just a reminder that you can still get a free copy of that first issue here.
Like I said in my original post, I was skeptical of Simplify Magazine. However, Issue 002 delivered just like the first. They upped the game even more by delivering 9 essays in Issue 002 vs. 7 essays in Issue 001.
For Issue 002, I’ll be skimming the surface a little bit more so I don’t give everything away. Hopefully this preview piques your interest and you’ll consider subscribing!

How to Be a Healthy Adult in the 21st Century — by Meredith Vieceli
To be a healthy, happy human who’s thriving and not just surviving every day, we have to swim against the unhealthy tide that will swallow us up if we don’t resist it.
Meredith’s essay is about how we can do hard things when they are the right thing to do and how to strengthen your “choose muscle.”
She talks about letting go of all refined, added sugar in your diet for ten days through the Sugar Freedom challenge.
True health is when we are strong, vibrant, happy, energetic, resilient, active, at ease, balanced.
My Black Belt in Peace — by David Wenzel
I’ve met very healthy people who are not doing well, and I’ve met very unhealthy people who are doing very well.
David has had it tougher than most of us can even imagine. He was diagnosed with grade II oligodendroglioma (brain cancer) and had a painful divorce while he knew he would be dying soon.
He talks about “true shalom” (Hebrew for “peace”) — “the true treatment for all sicknesses.”
Real life is made up of relationships and experiences that are meaningful to us, and when they’re right, then you can have deep peace and well-being even if your physical health is not going the way you want it to.
Living Well as a Highly Sensitive Person — by Dr. Elaine Aron
I define high sensitivity as a preference for processing information more deeply. Those of us who are highly sensitive take in stimuli and use it in a different way, a more thorough way, than less-sensitive people do.
Are you a highly sensitive person? Or, maybe you know someone who is highly sensitive. High sensitivity comes with its challenges, but it also has a multitude of benefits. Her tips include creating downtime, carving out solitude, and choosing silence.

Own Less, Live Healthier — by Joshua Becker
Clutter increases stress levels—almost undoubtedly.
Researchers and scientists at UCLA and Princeton have linked high levels of stress and lower levels of focus with cluttered physical environments
A visually disorganized environment has neurological effects similar to what we experience when barraged and overwhelmed by lots of different noises at once.

Managing Your Calm — by Lisa Byrne
The truth is, we feel stress because of our inability to manage the health of our own system. We feel stress because we haven’t learned how to manage well-being in our bodies and moods, our minds and spirits. It’s that simple.
Lisa discusses the difference between managing stress and managing well-being — and how the vicious cycle of managing stress is founded on a faulty premise.
You were designed to function as a thermostat, setting the tone of your day from the inside out—not as a thermometer, receiving the energy of your environment and allowing that to establish your inner experience all day long.
Quick and Easy Natural Solutions to Try in Your Home — by Katie Wells
I’ve noticed that a lot of my fellow moms (and dads!) hear about do-it-yourself alternatives to commercial cleansers, beauty products, and remedies and are intrigued about the possibility of giving them a try…but for some reason never quite do it.
You’ll have to subscribe to get Katie’s recipes for Natural All-Purpose Cleaner, Natural Deodorant, Natural Laundry Soap, Natural Foaming Hand Soap, and Natural Bug Spray.
The Family Table — by Aimée Wimbush-Bourque
Time around the table is important to us because sharing a meal together is more than just physically nourishing; it fills a primary need for community and connection on many levels.
Aimée and her family eat together seven nights a week. She covers the positive benefits of a healthy food culture in her home.
By creating a healthy food culture in the home, my husband and I are striving to give our children the best attitude toward food, instead of letting society’s food culture influence—and perhaps misguide—them.
Secrets of Getting Enough Shut-Eye — by Tsh Oxenredier
Basically, when we chronically don’t get enough sleep, we make irrational decisions, can feel depressed, potentially gain weight, and forfeit our ability to remember well.
It’s not just smartphones and social media that keep us up late. Sometimes it’s good things like reading and learning. But, not getting enough sleep is “handing over our power to make smart decisions and think rationally.”
Prioritizing sleep has profound short- and long-term effects on our health—all good. We’re more creative in our work. We’re more fully present in our parenting. We’re kinder neighbors and friends. And we’re better lovers with our partners when we get enough sleep night after night.
