🌎 Lighter Living
“How to be Rich, Happy, & Save the World”
I find myself rewatching this presentation from Pete Adeney (aka Mr. Money Mustache) once a year since I first discovered the FIRE movement (Financial Independence Retire Early) in 2017.
“Work is better when you don’t need the money.” — Pete Adeney

🧭 Deeper Purpose
Change Your Self, Change the World
I’ve come across a version of this quote before. Worth sharing again:
“I wanted to change the world. When I found I couldn’t change the world, I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I tried to change my town. When I found I couldn’t change the town, I tried to change my family. Now, I realize the only thing I can change is myself. I realize that if I had changed myself, I could have impacted my family. My family and I could have impacted our town. Our town could have impacted the nation. And, I could indeed have changed the world.” — Unknown

🧠 Mental Wealth
New Book Summaries: Make It Stick & Metalearning
Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning (Book Summary) is the best book I’ve read on learning so far because it seems to pack the most knowledge per page. The 🔒Premium Summary is even more concise and actionable—including an infographic of the top learning practices: self-quizzing & testing, effort & difficulties, delays & spacing, interleaving & variation, and generation & elaboration.
“Every time you learn something new, you change the brain—the residue of your experiences is stored.” — Make It Stick
Metathinking: The Art and Practice of Transformational Thinking (Book Summary) introduces the concept of the “metathinking framework” that goes beyond logical and dialectical thinking.
”It is the process of reflecting on your own thought processes to which we draw your attention throughout this book, because by noticing your thinking you have the capacity to change your thinking. We call this process ‘Metathinking’. Using Daniel Kahneman’s terminology, it might also be called ‘System 3’ thinking. More specifically, this book is designed to help you recognise what is missing from your thinking currently and, from there, to become a stronger, deeper thinker.” — Metathinking

☯️ Timeless Wisdom
Practice turning People into Trees
Wise words from Ram Dass:
”When you go out into the woods and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You appreciate it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree. The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying, ‘You’re too this’ or ‘I’m too this.’ That judging mind comes in. So, I practice turning people into trees—which means appreciating them just the way they are.” — Ram Dass
