๐๐ Lifelong Learning & Deeper Development
What is transformative learning?
Transformative learning theory is easily one of the biggest ideas I’ve discovered in recent years. Start with Transformative Dimensions of Adult Learning by Jack Mezirow (Book Summary) and Understanding and Promoting Transformative Learning by Patricia Cranton (Book Summary). If you want the best of everything, check out: ๐ Transformative Learning Synthesis: How to Transform Your Perspective (+ Infographics)
One of the things I love the most is that the transformative learning journey kicks off with a “disorienting dilemma” that cannot be resolved with one’s existing mind, and it culminates with a “perspective transformation” and reintegration into society.

๐ Lighter Living
What is intentional living?
Asking deep questions about life and yourself can lead to discovery of alternative lifestyle designs and more intentionality in life. For many (most?) people, life is heavy in both space and timeโa combination of clutteredness (relationship with physical space) and busyness (relationship with psychological time).
Slowing down and simplifying in a fast, unconscious, materialistic world is the seed/gateway to everything else: subtracting the superficial “stuff” (physical and psychological clutter), shifting inward where we can consciously meet life face-to-face, and creating the inner space for all the transformations that come next.
I use “intentional living” as an umbrella term that encapsulates a wide range of concepts including: slow living, unbusyness, simple living, voluntary simplicity, downshifting, decluttering, minimalism, digital declutter & digital minimalism, money & financial independence, work & lifestyle design, health & well-being, and more.

๐งญ Higher Purpose
I read 100+ articles on life purpose…
One of the things I did when I was trying to make sense of life purpose was search “life purpose” and read every search result on the first 10 pages of Google. Literally. To make it even more fun, I also searched similar phrases like “how to life purpose” and “find life purpose” which added even more. How many links did I click and read exactly? 139. Here’s everything I learned (๐). Or, you can just start here with 10 deep thoughts to guide your heroโs journey to finding life purpose.

๐ง Mental Mastery
Psychological Drivers of the Meta-Crisis
A few years ago, I watched most of John Vervaeke’s Awakening from the Meaning Crisis (50-episode YouTube series) and highlighted it in profound podcasts that introduce the meaning crisis, sensemaking, and Game B. Sometime around then, I also discovered Daniel Schmachtenberger (Summary | ๐Synthesis) along with his later initiative The Consilience Project (Summary | ๐Synthesis). And, I also happened to read part of Iain McGilchrist’s book The Master and His Emissary (Book Summary).
Now fast forward a couple years. I’ve been saying the meta-crisis is a me-crisis. Last week’s newsletter highlighted the latest from Iain McGilchrist on brain hemispheres. And, this week McGilchrist finally chatted with Schmachtenberger and Vervaeke in this new video on the psychological drivers of the meta-crisis. Gotta love when worlds collide!
“What do you want to exist even if you don’t, and how much of a difference do you make to it now?” โ John Vervaeke
